"The Sinclairs are athletic, tall and handsome. We are old-money Democrats. Our smiles are wide, our chins square and our tennis serves aggressive."

The Sinclairs are a rich American family. They spend their summers on their private Island of the coast of Massachusettes, Beechwood Island. The family includes Harris Sinclair and his wife, as well as his three daughters and their partners, and seven grandchildren. The book is written in the perspective of Cadence "Cady" Sinclair, the eldest grandchild. She describes the summers the family spends on the island - starting from when she is around 8 years old. The "liars" include herself, her cousins Johnny and Mirren, and Gat, a family friend. They are all the same age and get along beautifully. The book describes summer after summer they spend together. We find out at the beginning of the book that in "Summer fifteen", when they were fifteen years old, there was a horrible accident involving Cadence. She does not remember what lead up to it or how it happened. She just knows that after the accident, she suffers from terrible migraines. Seems there is a whole lot she cannot remember. In summer seventeen, she returns to the Island and slowly but surely starts remembering more than she ever wanted to know...

I loved this book. It was a quick read, I could not put it down. Lockhart writes very much in the perspective of a fifteen-year old, the sentences are quite short but sweet. The "liars" have a beautiful relationship. I love how their relationship develops, especially the one between Cadence and Gat, but also between the grandfather Harris and his daughters. I did not foresee what was coming, even though looking back there were quite a number of hints throughout Cady´s story. I was truly shocked to get to the end. A beautiful read that I can highly recommend.
