Eleanor & Park - Rainbow Rowell

Eleanor & Park
von Rainbow Rowell

One day in 1986 Eleanor & Park meet each other in the school bus. First they don't like each other, but quickly they got friends.
Eleanor's parents are divorced and she lives with her mum and her 4 siblings at her stepdad, who hates Eleanor. When Eleanor and Park become friends, she's lives more and more at his house, than at herselves and her stepdad isn't really excited about that...

"Eleanor & Park" was Rainbow Rowells first real Young Adult book and it was also my first book of her.

First I really love the cover, it's so simple, but so nice and fits perfectly to the topic of the book.
And so is the topic itself - simple but pretty awesome:
A normal teenager life, a normal love story - but that's what makes the story so lovely. Protagonists without any special powers, no bad boys, no super-pretty girls. Just normal teenagers in the 80s (okay, hopefully Eleanor's life is not standard).
Furthermore, there is no "love at the first sight", their relation has to develop slowly with so much emotions. I'd liked to see them both falling in love more and more.

Another point I really love are the various perspectives of Eleanor and Park. Although it is written above the chapters out of which view you read, you would recognize it by reading, because both have a quite personal way to speak and think. Rainbow Rowell has achieved it to make her characters so special just by their kinds of thinking.

In contrary to many other readers I really enjoyed the ending. It is quite sad, but so full of love. I really had to cry a little bit.

In conclusion I just can say I love “Eleanor and Park”!
