Finally I was able to read Ambers Story! I was looking forward to this book, as Amber is the most relateble character of the three girls. At least for me. Evie and Lottie came a little short in this one, but that is due to the fact, that Amber leaves England and spends the summer in the USA with her mum and, to her great misfortune, her mums husband 'bumchin' Kevin. Amber does not exaggerate, when she describes him als annoying and bumchinny. He really is all over the place and is one of the reasons, Amber does not get a real moment alone with her estranged mother.

This book is about searching desperately for love. Not in the romantic kind of way - although that kind does find it's way into the story - but motherly love. Amber has not seen her mum for two years and feels left out. Left out in her family. Her father rather spends time with hier wife and her annoyingly spoiled brat of a son and her mother went to America with Kevin. Leaving Amber alone and angry and sad. To top it all of, she is beeing treated like she should know better and get her emotions under control and to stop being selfish. There were a lot of parts in the book, that made me so so angry for her. Cause quite frankly, Amber has a point. She was and is being neglected and her being a teenager does not make the situation any easier.

I really love how Holly Bourne put Ambers story together. Amber is such a relatable person and oh so funny! I love the british humor and the friendship between the girls. Holly Bourne really did a great job with the characters. The book is very easy to read because of the simpleness, without being dull or taking out the seriousness of Ambers situation. As I said, there is also the romantic kind of love, which Ambers finds in her storyline, without looking for it. She just has a little crush on Prom King Kyle. The romance itself is quite nice and lovely and I am really happy for Amber - but it's also the reason I am not giving five stars. I am very aware of the fact, that romance, love and sex is something important in the lifes of a lot of Teenagers and I don't want to weigh it down. I am just a little disappointed, that it has to play a big role in a story about a girl and her estranged alcoholic mum. On the other side is it Kyle (and Whinnie, I might add) who helps Amber through the summer and the situation with her mother. Being an understanding and supportive boyfriend. Anything less for Amber and I would be really pissed!

Anyway... It is a very good read for every teenager, young aduld and grown-up and I recommend this book highly to anyone. Of course the feminism does not take a break in this book either.
Also, you don't have to read the books in their actual order. It sure helps, because then you will be reading in the actual timeline, but I read the third book before the second one and it did not feel like I missed out on a lot. The relevant things get a short explanation so that the reader has als the information needed for that instance. Every book is a seperate story.
