Leichenfresser - Brian Keene

Leichenfresser

'Ghoul' has all the necessary ingredients to create a tasty coming-of-age horror novel, and this may even have been my first story featuring a ghoul. I appreciated that the ghoul had a pitiful mind of its own and was not just a senseless creature. Surprisingly (or maybe not so), despite its missing table manners it was not much more monstrous than some of the humans. The kid roles felt a bit too familiar, but were perfectly portrayed nonetheless. In the end, I was left with the bittersweet feeling of fond memories and sadness over irrevocable loss only coming-of-age stories manage to elicit.
