Vor der Rezi: Heute habe ich mal wieder eine Rezension zu einem Sachbuch für euch. Da es englischsprachig ist habe ich mich für mein Design für englischsprachige Rezensionen entschieden, obwohl natürlich einige Sachen wegfallen, wie der Coververgleich oder „You May Also Like“. In Kürze wird diese Rezension auch ganz ähnlich auf Maras und meinem Lifestyleblog Luova erscheinen.
Today I have a review of a non-fiction book for you. It is a completely English book so I decided to use my English-Books-Layout and to write the review bilingual though some titles like the English-German-Cover-Comparison and “You May Also Like” won’t take part in this review because they don’ fit to a non-fiction book. Meine Meinung: Vielleicht kennt ihr die Youtuberin Abby Smith ja schon oder habt zumindest von ihr gehört. Mich fasziniert sie auf jeden Fall schon länger mit ihren tollen und absolut alltagstauglichen Flechtfrisuren. Dann bin ich bei Amazon eher zufällig über ihr Buch gestolpert und musste es mir natürlich kaufen.
Maybe you saw Abby Smith’s hairstyle tutorials on YouTube or you heard about her before. I’m fascinated by them and the beautiful hairstyles, which are suitable for daily use. Then I stumbled over her book at Amazon and decided to buy it.
Den Hauptteil des Buches bilden Flechtfrisuren, die in die Kategorien Braids, Durch Braids, Fishtails, Ponytails, Formal, Buns, Knots, Twists und Topsy Tails eingeteilt wurden. Mir gefällt diese Einteilung gut, denn so werden unterschiedliche Anforderungen und auch ein unterschiedliches Aussehen der Frisuren sehr gut unterteilt. Zum besseren Überblick befindet sich direkt im Anschluss an das Inhaltsverzeichnis eine Übersicht aller Hairstyles in kleinen Bildchen, was unnötiges Blättern erspart und einen tollen Überblick verschafft. Was mich auch besonders gefreut hat ist die gesamte Einleitung des Buches. Hier gibt Abby Smith Tipps zur Pflege von verschiedenen Haartypen, erklärt Fachbegriffe und zeigt Basistechniken, die man während des Buches braucht mit vielen Abbildungen und sehr gut erklärt.
The book’s main part is about the hairstyles and they are divided into different categories: Braids, Durch Braids, Fishtails, Ponytails, Formal, Buns, Knots, Twists and Topsy Tails. I really like this classification because the hairstyles were perfectly divided by appearance and requirement. Subsequent to the index there is an overview with all hairstyles in pictures. That makes it easy to find the hairstyle you’d like to try without skimming so much. What I liked most was the first chapter, that deals with the basics like Hair Care, Hair Types and Basic Techniques you need in order to do all those gorgeous hair styles.
Die Anleitungen zu den einzelnen Flechtfrisuren sind wie folgt aufgeteilt: Direkt unter dem Titel findet ihr persönliche Worte von Abby. Sie beschreibt die Ausgangsstruktur ihrer Haare, sagt zu welchem Anlass ihr sie gebrauchen könnt oder welche Basic Techniken ihr unbedingt können solltet. Danach kommen ein Bild mit den fertigen Frisuren und eine Step-by-Step-Anleitung, die mit vielen Bildern versehen und mit einfachen Anweisungen geschrieben ist. Bei vielen Frisuren findet ihr außerdem noch eine Tipp-Box mit hilfreichen Tipps, die euch bei dieser oder bei ähnlichen Frisuren helfen können.
The hairstyle instructions are structured as follows: Directly below the title you can find personal words by Abby Smith. She describes her hair’s structure at the beginning and which basic techniques you need to know. Then there’s a picture of the hairstyle and a step-by-step-instruction with easy assignments and a lot of picures. You can also find a tip-box next to some hairstyles. There you get tips that help you completing this or similar hairstyles easier.
Wie ihr sicher merkt, bin ich sehr zufrieden mit der Gestaltung und dem Aufbau des Buches. Bekannte Frisuren aus ihren Videos findet man auch wieder und hat nun alles gut auf einem Blick in einem Buch vereint. Was mir aber wirklich etwas gefehlt hat waren Schwierigkeitsgrade. Natürlich muss man bei vielen Frisuren die Basic Techniken kennen, damit man sie nachmachen kann aber mir haben auch einfach noch mal Infos dazu gefehlt, wie schwierig diese Frisur ist, selbst wenn man die Techniken beherrscht.
You may have noticed that I am really satisfied with the book’s appearance and the structure. You find a lot of hairstyles you remember out of videos and a lot more and now, you have them all in one book and at a glance. What I missed is information about the degree of difficulty next to every hairstyle. I know, that you need to know the basics in order to do a hairstyle perfect but nevertheless there are differences concerning difficulty and I would really, really like to have the information about that.
Dennoch kann ich euch dieses Buch problemlos empfehlen, wenn ihr Anfänger in Sachen Flechten und Frisuren seid. Denn wie gesagt, die Erklärungen sind richtig gut und verständlich und außerdem bekommt ihr vorne im Buch alle wichtigen Techniken beigebracht. Seid aber nicht enttäuscht, wenn es beim ersten Mal nicht so klappt, denn das Flechten braucht, wie auch so viele andere Sachen, vor allen Dingen Übung. Ich kann euch außerdem empfehlen euch Testpersonen zu suchen, an denen ihr üben könnt. Das ist oft noch einmal deutlich einfacher als am eigenen Kopf und euren wundervollen neuen Hair Styles steht bald nichts mehr im Weg.
However I can recommend this book easily. Regardless of whether you are a beginner in doing hairstyles or if you just need some new inspiration. The assignments are easy and Abby teaches you all the basic techniques. Don’t be disappointed if the beginning isn’t as easy as you thought. Beginners need a lot of practice and it helps a lot trying new hairstyles first at a friend or at your sister before you try it on your own hair cause this is often way more difficult.
English Skills: Obwohl alles sehr gut und einfach und vor allen Dingen sehr verständlich erklärt ist, braucht man keine großen Fähigkeiten um alles gut zu verstehen. Deshalb würde ich im ersten Moment dem Buch ein englisches Lesefüchschen der Stufe 1 geben. Bei genauerem Hinsehen ist mir jedoch aufgefallen, dass Abby wirklich sehr viele, besonders für Frisuren spezifische, Fachausdrücke benutzt, die zwar mir, gerade durch ihre Videos geläufig sind, anderen aber vielleicht nicht. Deshalb stufe ich die Leseskills hoch auf ein englisches Lesefüchschen der Stufe 2, denn wenn ihr euch gut mit diesen Begriffen beschäftigt sollte das Verständnis bald kein Problem mehr sein.
First I thought it is really easy to understand and it deserves an English Reading Fox Level 1. But then I noticed that Abby used a lot of specific expressions that you don’t know as a non-native speaker. You need to deal with those words; you need to learn what they mean and then everything is perfect and easy to understand. So this book gets the English Reading Fox Level 2.
Bewertung: Wenn ihr lernen wollt, wie ihr Flechtfrisuren nachmacht oder tolle und wirklich alltagstaugliche neue Ideen braucht, dann ist Abby Smiths Buch genau das richtige für euch. Denn kurz und verständlich und außerdem absolut sympathisch und liebenswürdig erklärt sie Grundtechniken sowie tolle Frisuren zu nachmachen. The New Braiding Handbook bekommt von mir dafür 5 von 5 Füchschen und ist meine absolute Empfehlung an euch.
Regardless of whether you are a beginner in doing hairstyles or if you just need some new inspiration Abby Smith’s book will be perfect for you. Shot and easy and with her cute and likeable nature Abby Smith teaches us basic techniques and cute hairstyles. The New Braiding Handook deserves 5/5 Foxes and is my top recommendation to you!
