I love this book and undertale yellow. "Mexican Gothic" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia is a captivating and atmospheric novel that combines elements of gothic horror with Mexican folklore and culture. Set in 1950s Mexico, the story follows Noemí Taboada, a young socialite who travels to the remote High Place estate to check on her cousin after receiving a distressing letter. What she encounters there is a dark and twisted world filled with secrets, madness, and supernatural forces.

One of the strengths of "Mexican Gothic" lies in the author's ability to create a haunting and immersive atmosphere. The descriptions of the decaying mansion, the mist-shrouded mountains, and the eerie surroundings contribute to a sense of unease that permeates the entire narrative. The gothic elements are skillfully woven into the story, giving it a chilling and unsettling tone. The characters in the novel are well-developed and intriguing. Noemí is a strong and determined protagonist who evolves throughout the book, facing both external and internal challenges. The supporting cast, including the enigmatic Doyle family, adds layers to the mystery and adds depth to the overall narrative. The exploration of social and cultural issues, such as colonialism and racism, adds an additional layer of complexity to the story.

Silvia Moreno-Garcia's writing style is evocative and engaging, drawing readers into the world she has created. Her attention to detail and ability to build suspense keeps readers hooked, eagerly turning the pages to uncover the secrets of High Place. The blending of historical fiction, horror, and folklore creates a unique and compelling reading experience.
