Ten years ago I saw the movie to this book in the cinema. Fortunately I don't remember anything about it anymore, save for one important scene (which was a heavy spoiler while now reading the book I hate to say). But I didn't know who the Half-Blood Prince was or what would happen with Voldemort in this book. Which made the whole read quite exciting as well as entertaining. I liked that we get to Hogwarts a lot faster than in book 5, because even if we don't sit with the kids in so many classes anymore - the atmosphere at the old Wizard school is just great.

It was fascinating to accompany Harry and Dumbledore on their trips through the pensieve and gain information on Voldemorts past.
After I amended my view on Snape after reading the 5th Harry Potter book, I'm now utterly confused. Already in the 2nd chapter it is established that Snape works as kind of a double agent, spying for Voldemort as well as working alongside Dumbledore in the Order of the Phoenix. Question now is: where does his loyalty lie, which side is his heart on? I couldn't figure it out in this book, although there is a major event in the book involving Snape at the end of the book. I still want to give him the benefit of the doubt, because I also have a small spoiler from the very last book: the meaning of 'Always'. But that's about the only thing I know (ok, I also know about one of the horcuxes), so I'm really looking forward to reading about the final adventures at Hogwarts.

Because although the Harry Potter books are really 'lenghty', they never get boring. The ability of J.K. Rowling to write is amazing! Here in this 6th book you can also feel that she had a plan how all of this will develop from the very beginning of the series. I once saw a short TV feature on her, I think it was around the publishing of the 4th book. She said that she has the overall plotline (and it's important connections) on little index cards already (even showed them to the camera, without letting us see what's written on it, of course), and that she will be writing 7 books about Harry and his friends. The books definitely benefit from this thought-through plotline, it doesn't feel like "hmm, the last one was successful, so why not write another one...let's see what I can come up with this time".
