This is a book about 2nd chances in life and love, struggling and fighting for yourself and the ppl you like and love and it´s about letting go of the past. The book is also about hurting, changing, unexpected situations and how the course of life can be changed instantly.

The two main characters are Darlene and Sawyer.
Darlene is a former dancer whose past was full of drugs and also jail-time. Now she´s clean and want´s to have a fresh start- A start somewhere where no one knows her and about her past, somewhere where no one judges her. San Francisco- that´s the city where everything will change and with her sponsor Max, a new job and an apartment in a beautiful house, the start seems to start well.

Sawyer is working and studying hard to become what he always wanted to be. Finishing law school and getting this job that would help him not only in his career but also financially keeps him up day and night. But for him it´s all worth it as long as his baby Olivia is healthy, fed and cared of. She´s the love of his life and he´d do everything for her. She´s his number one and he´d do everything to keep it this way and puts his own needs on a waitlist.

Insecurities, fears, the past and the right now are eating at them both. While one is closed off and tries to push everyone away while working hard for a good future, the other is very open and fun, even though she´s scared of her past catching up to her. Both aren´t looking for love, but when they both live in the same house as neighbours and start to get to know each other, the not wanting turns to want. Fighting it keeps getting harder and harder. But when life throws you off and the truth comes out, the chance of a happily ever after seems to be impossible.

Will both be able to be successful with their dreams, wishes and jobs? Will Sawyer be able to be the daddy he needs and wants to be for Olivia? What happend in both their pasts? What are they scared of and what happens when they are confronted with the thing they feared the most? What is going to happen to Olivia? What happens when the truth will come out? Will Darlene and Sawyer fall in love? Will there be a happy end?

Read and find out :P

My opinion:

It was my first book by Emma Scott and it was good. I liked it.

The characters were nice. I liked Sawyer and I loooooved Olivia. She was so adorable and cute. Every scene with her melted my heart :)
Darlene was great too. I liked her fun personality.
I liked in general how "real" they were. How they struggled and fought with themselves and for everything that mattered to them. I liked how Sawyer just became the daddy without much question and loved her unconditionally and how he put her always first. And every time the book mentioned how he looked at Olivia and how he smiled at her....swoon. Nothing better than a fathers love :)

I liked the way Sawyer and Darlene changed and how they influenced and helped each other. They helped each other with their fears and transitioned into ppl who are happy.

I liked the story in general. It was a nice one :)

There were just a couple things I didn´t like.

1. There were a few mistakes in the book. There were several sentences that had either a word too much or a word missing in it. To me it seemed like the sentence begun but in between the author tried to write the sentence differently but forgot to delete this one word. I don´t know how to describe it properly- especially in english, but yeah... I had to reread some sentences again and again to make sure I read it right.

2. The custody thing and the grandparents thing. As much as the book mentioned the grandparents (forgot their names) seemed like nice ppl. In my opinion they weren´t. I couldn´t stand them. SPOILER START They said Sawyer seemed so cold and that´s why they wanted the hearing and so on.
But´s that´s not true. They didn´t even gave him a chance. They didn´t have a normal conversation.
They didn´t even try to get to know to him and see if he´s a good dad. They didn´t ask him if they could be a part of their lives as grandparents . They just came to his place with their lawyer and told him there was a hearing sheduled. And they hired the lawyer and made the appointment BEFORE they even met him. They wanted custody no matter what and wanted to take Olivia from Sawyer. They didn´t care much about how Sawyer and Olivia would feel and what this would mean to them. They were selfish. Really. I can´t stand them. I´m just glad that they turned around at the end and gave in. Guess everything could´ve been prevented if they are would´ve acted like grown ups and would´ve just talked with each other.
Also... To me it was weird that there was this 1 year until Sawyer could write his name as the dad on the birth certificate. I believe that when the DNA proves that you´re the dad, you automatically have parental rights. But I´m not 100% sure. I also live in another country so the law might be different. But it confused me the whole time. The revelation that he isn´t the biological dad wasn´t a surprise then.
At the hearing, the grandparents pulled the neighbour card and did some research to have Sawyer looking bad. But what about them? Why was there no research done about them? Why wasn´t someone saying: " Hey, they are too old to raise a kid", or "Hey, they had their chance and look what happened. Their daughter ran away from them, was addicted to drugs, slept around and died without their knowledge. We don´t know why she ran away, but would we want the same for Olivia? How can we know that everything wouldn´t happen again with Olivia? How can we know she´ll be happy and safe with her grandparents?"
So yeah... Those things bothered me a bit.
SPOILER END

I´m happy with the way the book ended and wouldn´t mind to have books about some of the side characters. Especially Sawyers friend- he was funny :D And the scene with Olivia at the end-soooo cute.

So yeah... It was a book with a nice story and great characters :)

I love all the Emma Scott's books. I love her language and the use of positive words. Btw, not all stories are funny or about love but that's the point! :)
