“Can we have a time-out on the self-criticism for the rest of the evening?" "Not the rest of the evening. I can do about half an hour and then force of habit takes over.”

I hope I never sounded like Neve in a relationship. While I felt sympathic towards for her the first 20% I fastly came to hate her attitude. I've been a size 16-14 all my life and I don't think I'll ever be able to be a 10. Of course I went from one diet to another and of course I used to talk about diets while doing them. But seriously?
I cannot understand at all why Max was in the least interested in her. Not because she was chubby and I don't understand that he feels attracted to her but because if I had to spend 1 day with Neve, I would have left her right after the second meal. I'm not happy with my body and yes, I want to be skinnier, but I believe that a man, in your bedroom, naked, wants to have sex with you. I'm pretty sure the 2 layers of clothes won't make him believe your a size 10 when you're a 16 and that he knows what he's gonna get when he is NAKED IN YOUR BEDROOM. No need to be all hiding and being ashamed of your body because really...  he is already naked in your bedroom. When he is naked in your bedroom he wants to have sex and no matter what your body looks like, he's gonna stay. I don't believe that there is any man that would leave just because you took of your clothes. "Oh you are THAT big? Uagh no, that tunic made me believe you were size 8 but now... sorry but you did fool me into your bedroom with your clothes. Apologize and I'll be on my way..." He wouldn't even be there ( in your bedroom ) if he cared about your size. I truly believe that Max ( or any other man )  wouldn't even think about your tummy or hip or tight in any other way than "I need to lick it. I need to bite into it. I need to touch all of it" if Neve would have just shut up about her insecurities.
I didn't minded it the first time, I totally understand her being nervous on the first time with "a strange man" and feeling like explaining her body issues, but after months of being together I don't want to hear about it anymore. Well, I have to admit it gets better in the novel but I really wanted to scream at her to stop talking.
Conclusing this, I didn't understood at all why Max fell in love with her. All she does is nagging, being selfish, using him and constantly reminding him that she hates her look and doesn't believe anything he says. And it cannot be her good looks as Neve makes sure we don't forget about her miserable appearance.
Beside I missed some closure on William. Are we gonna talk about the fact that he used her 3 years to get free cookies, chocolate and tea on a 2 weeks base? Really all his letters are ending with "Don't forget to sent me the Chocolate." which he never pays! She is paying for it and for the shipping cost as well. So he being an assbut and using her is not gonna get mentioned in the book? I really wanted her to tell him in one letter "you know what, if you only keep writing me to get free sweets, stop writing." That was what i was hoping for in the end. Neve becoming a strong selfloving person standing up for herself. I guess you could say she kinda does in the end but it is so minimal I almost missed it.
Still three stars for the writing style. I did read it in one day so there was at least something that got my attention. I guess if you can accept Neve, the book is really enjoyable.
