Since Madame Hemingway, a book I adored, I knew I would read everything from that author, no matter what topic. Although I said and thought that, I had mixed feelings on this title after reading the summary. I didn't knew anything about Beryl, and Africa was not really my cup of tea. Nonetheless, I choose to trust McLain on this and started reading my netgalley right after my approval on this advanced copy. Now that is a book for and about strong women! You feel McLains love for Beryl and fascination toward Africa. It is a love letter, to that woman, that country, ... This story consumed my thoughts all day, got me anticipating my reading time, prevented me from sleeping. After reading the summary I just got a wrong impression on what the book would be about. I was wating for Beryl to start flying, fighting her places among men. This is the story of before, of how Beryl became the woman she needed to be to start flying. So the actual flying doen't start till 93% of the book. Flying or planes and not center here, it's Beryl growing up, her love for horses and Africa, her being on her own. It's adventurous and breathtaking at times. Definitely a recommendation for this summer, and winter and all the years to come.
