'Doll Bones' is a well-written coming-of-age story, flavored with a light dose of creepiness. While I didn't like the characters that much, but I enjoyed the plot, though it had its implausible moments. Also, it was fascinating to see how the kids struggled with growing up and whether that would imply they should abandon their fantastic games or not.
I can imagine that younger readers will find this book much more rewarding and suspenseful than I did, and I'm sure I would have rated it higher had I had the chance to read it back then myself.
