What a nightmarish little novel. I have this book since years and started reading it once but did not continue. This time I started and was quite captivated by the bizarre story. The sci fi novel is set in a desastrous future of Earth. Overpopulated, poisoned and depressing. In addition to a slighltly weird plot the poor protagonist of the story suffers from hallucinations, making the novel even more nightmarish to follow. Perhaps that was the intention of the author... to make certain the reader feels the desperate way we are heading with our human exploit of Earth, of fauna and flora and ourselves. Mission accomplished, thanks Aldiss it is only a shorter novel... hard to recommend to read though... Perhaps I meet somebody one day who read it also and we can talk about it.
