"Nothing lasts forever. Life doesn't, love doesn't, hope doesn't, so why would death, hate, or despair? Nothing is permanent. Not even the end of the world."

A novella prequel to Warm Bodies, it takes place after civilization has fallen, while the survivors are still trying to find refuge.

Julie is twelve years old and trying to find civilisation with her parents. We see her travel to Canada but they are turned away and travel to Seattle where she crosses paths with Nora who has been abandoned by her parents along with her seven year old brother. R has just become undead and we read his inner battle with the killer inside him.

I think you could get away with reading this before Warm Bodies but I don't think you'd get the most out of it. But on the other hand it's not as good as Warm Bodies so maybe read that first. I was sorta bored with some of it. I tend not to like standard apocalyptic and zombie fiction because the plotlines are generally hugely depressing - I read to escape my feelings of emptiness and despair, not to experience it via a different, fictional person.

There's nothing in here that the average reader couldn't live without knowing. On the other hand, if you like to have some back story to characters and how they ended up where they ended up, then I would recommend definitely reading this one.
