Truth Hurts
von Rebecca Reid

Now: Poppy watches her House getting demolished, because she needs to destroy it and its horrible history.

A couple of months before, Poppy met Drew in Ibiza. He rescued her: she had lost her job as a (holiday) nanny, had no money and nowhere to live. They fell head over heels in love and married. Back in England Drew surprises her with a beautiful old manor house. Everything seems perfect, but one thing is strange: Drew keept insisting on never talking about the time before they had met, which suits Poppy, since she has a dark secret herself,. But what is Drew hiding? Could it be worse than what she did? And why did he want to be with her, marry her so fast, so badly?

A couple of years before the readers learn, bit by bit, all about Poppy’s first job as a nanny and what went horribly wrong.

The plot is told from two points of view: One from the protagonist and the other is from the protagonist's former employer, a mother, who really appreciated her as a nanny.

The characters were all very well crafted and the story unusual, shocking, as well as plausible. The writing is awesome and the descriptions entirely believable, as well as beautifully painted.

“Truth Hurts” is more than a riveting psychological thriller, there is a lot for the readers to ponder on class mentality and the degree of self confidence that comes with it, family, friendship, romantic relationships, what connects people, and what separates them.

Poppy is sensitive and clever, but also flawed in many ways. The way she sees herself, others, and how that makes her fell and act, is really interesting.

The description on the book is absolutely true: “Well written, with a plot and characters that haunt you long after you've finished.” - Jane Corry, author of “My Husband’s Wife”
