Zwei sympathische Jungs

Eines war Josh klar: eines Tages würden sie ihn verstoßen. Ihn hinauswerfen aus Paradise, der Sekten-Farm auf der er aufgewachsen ist und die alles ist was er kennt. Auch wenn das Leben dort hart ist und er zu den unerwünschten schwachen Mitgliedern gehört, die niemals eine Frau zugewiesen bekommen würden. Es ist doch seine Heimat und außerdem ist hier Caleb immer an seiner Seite - sein bester Freund und alles was ihm wichtig ist, doch seine Gefühle ihm gegenüber sind eine Sünde…
Für Caleb war es immer das Wichtigste Josh zu beschützen, doch irgendwann gelingt ihm dies nicht mehr und er muss sich entscheiden ob er ihm in die Welt draußen folgen soll. Dabei würde Caleb Josh überall hin folgen, denn er hegt ein Geheimnis das er nicht mal seinem besten Freund bisher anvertraut hat.
Als ich gesehen habe das eine der Autorinnen meines Gay-Romance-Highlights aus dem März – HIM- ein neues Werk veröffentlicht hat das auch noch ein Standalone ist, war mir direkt klar dass ich es lesen muss.
Goodbye Paradise hat einen sehr interessanten Hintergrund durch das Setting mit den beiden Protagonisten und deren Leben in der religiösen Polygamisten-Sekte. Dabei ist das Ganze auf jeden Fall nicht so klischeehaft wie man sich das vielleicht vorstellt mit den schwulen Jungs aus einer religiösen Sekte.
Wir lernen die beiden mitten in ihrem täglichen Leben kennen, erfahren etwas über die Zustände dort und werden in deren Weltanschauung eingeführt, sowie die Verhältnisse zwischen Mann und Frau. Es ist schon ein wenig erschreckend wie sich die Sektenführer dort ihre eigene kleine Welt aufbauen und die Leute mehr oder weniger freiwillig sich diesen fügen. Allerdings hätte ich mir gewünscht noch ein wenig mehr darüber zu erfahren. Da Josh die Sekte recht bald zu Beginn des Buches verlassen muss, kommt die Sprache nur noch selten auf die Situation dort zurück, auch wenn die Vergangenheit der beiden stets präsent ist.
Es war auf jeden Fall schön mit den beiden Jungs zusammen deren erste Schritte in der „Freiheit“ zu begehen. Die moderne Welt mit all ihren Fallstricken kennen zu lernen und sich endlich richtig lebendig zu fühlen. Auch die Beziehung der beiden entwickelt sich in einem angenehmen Tempo, denn auch Liebe und Leidenschaft ist etwas das beide bisher nie kennenlernen durften. Die Jungs selbst habe ich schnell ins Herz geschlossen. Josh ist eher der ruhigere, derjenige der es schon immer schwerer hatte wegen seines Status in der Sekte und auch später läuft das Leben nicht so rund für ihn wie er es gerne hätte. Er fühlt sich recht nutzlos und muss erst seinen eigenen Wert kennen lernen. Dagegen ist Caleb eher der Extrovertierte, aber kein Draufgänger im klassischen Sinn. Er ist jedoch jemand der gerne die Verantwortung übernimmt und für andere sorgt. Die beiden sind zusammen ein schönes Paar, auch wenn Jos für mich lange Zeit beinahe ein wenig zu soft war. Aber auch er hat es drauf ;=)
Die erotischen Szenen waren auf jeden Fall wieder heiß und auch die Liebesgeschichte im Ganzen war sowohl süß als auch bitterzart und ein wenig traurig. Auf jeden Fall auch durch die Nebencharaktere ein super Gesamtergebnis das ganz oben in meine Favoriten dieses Genres wandern wird. Es kommt nicht ganz an HIM ran, das liegt aber daran mir das Setting mit den beiden Eishockeyspielern und besten Freunden einfach von Anfang an mega gut gefallen hat und ich das eben auch auf Deutsch lesen konnte und daher oft noch ein anderes Feeling habe weil ich alles genauso verstehe wie es gedacht ist. Ich bin gespannt ob Goodbye Paradise irgendwann übersetzt wird und werde es dann auf jeden Fall nochmal lesen und sehen ob es dann noch eine Schippe drauf legen kann. Ich hoffe der nächste geplante Standalone-Roman der Autorin wird bald veröffentlicht.
Eine wunderbare Liebesgeschichte um zwei Jungs die nach Jahren in einer Sekte endlich das wahre Leben kennen lernen und dabei auch begreifen das es in Ordnung ist Liebe und Leidenschaft zu empfinden. Eine tolle Kombi aus angenehmen Charakteren, langsamen vorantasten und erotischen Szenen. Selbst die Nebencharaktere konnten mich begeistern. Auf jeden Fall eine Empfehlung für alle die gerne Gay-Romance lesen und ich hoffe auf eine Übersetzung dazu :=)

One thing was always clear to Josh : one day they would throw him. Out of Paradise, the compound of the cult on which he grew up and which is all he knows. Even if life is hard there and he belongs to the unwanted weak members who would never get a woman. It is his home and Caleb is always at his side - his best friend ans the only one who is important to him, but his feelings towards him are a sin in the eyes of the cult...
For Caleb, it was always the most important thing to protect Josh, but somehow he is not able to do that anymore and he has to decide whether to follow him out into the world outside or staying behind. Caleb would follow Josh everywhere, because he has a secret that he has not even told his best friend so far.
When I noticed that one of the authors of my gay romance highlight from March - HIM- released a new book, which is also a standalone, it was immediately clear that I must read it.
Goodbye Paradise has a very interesting background through the setting about the two protagonists and their lives in the religious polygamist cult. The whole thing is definitely not as stereotypical as one might think with the gay boys from a religious cult and such.
We get to know the two in the middle of their daily lives, learn about the situation there and are introduced into their worldview, as well as the relations between men and women. It is a little frightening how the cult leaders build their own small world there and the people more or less willingly join them. However, I would have liked to know a little more about it. Since Josh has to leave the cult quite soon at the beginning of the book, the plot rarely comes back to the situation there, even if the past is always present even outside.
It was definitely nice to take the first steps in "freedom" with the two boys. To get to know the modern world with all its hardness . Also the relationship of the two develops at a pleasant pace, because love and passion is something that both have never been allowed to get to know.
Josh is rather the quiet kind of guy, the one who has always had it harder in life because of his status in the cult and also later life is not easy on him. He felt quite useless and had to learn to accept his own value. On the other hand, Caleb is the extrovert, but not a badboy in the classical sense. He is, however, someone who likes to take responsibility and care for others. The two are a beautiful couple, even if Josh was almost a bit too soft. But he has also a strong side :=)
The erotic scenes were definitely hot and also the love story as a whole was sweet as well as a little sad. I liked the Book pretty much. It does not comes close to HIM, but this is because I was more into it with the two ice hockey players and best friends simply from the beginning. Maybe I could someday also read it again in German and therefore I often have a different feeling because I understand everything better. I'm curious if Goodbye Paradise is someday translated.
I hope the next planned standalone novel of the author will be released soon too.
A wonderful love story about two guys who after years of living in a strict cult get to know the true life and at the same time realize that it is okay to feel love and passion. A great combination of pleasant characters, slow anticipates and erotic scenes. Even the side characters could inspire me. In any case, a recommendation for all who love to read gay romance and I hope for a translation to this: =)
