Spannende, erfundene Geschichte um William Shakespeare, der sich hier in den Jahren 1585-86 unter falschem Namen in Italien aufhält, zuerst in Venedig, von wo er gar nicht mehr weg möchte, weil er sich in die schöne Kurtisane Isabella verliebt hat. Aber die Zeiten sind gefährlich, die Schergen des neuen Papstes sind unterwegs und wollen alles ausmerzen, was auch nur ansatzweise häretisch ist.
