When the Corn Is Waist High -

When the Corn Is Waist High

von Jeremy Scott

In the early 1980's, a tiny, rural Indiana farm town experiences a series of confounding and violent murders that shock the community.

With very little connection between the victims, but similar circumstances at each crime scene, the local sheriff wrestles with whether or not this is a serial killer, and how best to go about solving such a huge crime in a town where DUI is usually gossip for months.

That local sheriff is also the priest at the community Catholic church, and juggles those different responsibilities until the FBI storms into town to take over the investigation with foot soldiers, analysts, and profilers.

No longer officially in charge of the proceedings, our protagonist must navigate the bureaucratic nature of the federal authorities while offering his own local knowledge to try and assist the case. As he gets closer to the truth, his blunt advice and cynical attitude pushes him further to the edges of the investigation.

Can he find the proof he needs in time to prevent more murders, justify his law enforcement credentials, and return this sleepy corn town to normal before the killer strikes again?
