Stilistisch liegt mir der Gewinner des Man Booker Prize 2014 zuerst einmal nicht; Flanagans Satzkonstruktionen sind ungewöhnlich, es braucht eine Einlesephase. Aber er schreibt in einem Guß, da gibt es weder Sprünge noch Brüche. Er ist ein Meister in Form und Ausdruck. Meister sind anstrengend, anspruchsvoll, jede Mühe lohnend.
