Ein junger frischer moderner Frauenroman, der im Altenheim spielt. Was sich wie ein Widerspruch anhört, ist jedoch keiner.
Ich kannte vorher nur Will Trent, hatte aber von Jack Reacher durch Filme auch einigermaßen ein Bild von diesem Typ Mann vor mir (auch wenn er in den Filmen nie die Statur hatte, die hier beschrieben wurde). Das ganze ist nur eine Kurzgeschichte auf weniger als 100 Seiten, dementsprechend wenig tiefgründig und ausgeschmückt ist das Ganze.

I like the idea of this book series - to have fictional interviews with famous persons and thus share some interesting biographical facts with the reader. In this case the author is even the grandson of the VIP.

Der Autor ist bislang bekannt als Drehbuchautor, und als Film kann ich mir diese Geschichte ganz gut vorstellen. Als Buch hat es für mich leider nicht wirklich funktioniert. Das größte Problem für mich war, dass sich diese 'Tagebuch-Einträge' keinesfalls nach einem 15jährigen Jungen angehört haben, dessen Hormone gerade Achterbahn fahren.
Der Einstieg in die Geschichte war sehr erfrischend. Wir begegnen sofort den beiden Protagonisten Pippa (habe ich sofort ins Herz geschlossen) und Ben (scheint ein netter und vor allem attraktiver Kerl zu sein), samt sonstigen Lebewesen des Bauernhofes. Ein gemütliches Setting, das mich irgendwie etwas an die Mary Scott Romane erinnert hat die ich in den 90ern gern mal gelesen habe.
This is book number 8 in the I heart series. I've read the first part three years ago, where Angela is just coming to New York and meeting Jenny Lopez for the first time. I couldn't remember if Alex was one of the guys she is dating back then, but apparently he is.
Seeing the bookcover, and the name Jenny Colgan, one could rightly expect a nice and light chick-lit. But that is not what you get in "The Bookshop on the Shore". You get a book that reminded me at times of Jane Eyre, Rebecca and Lemony Snickets 'A series of unfortunate events' and Nanny McPhee.
The writing style sure is different, which I do prefer over something I feel I have read a hundred times before. But for me as a non-English-speaker it was at times also a bit difficult to always grasp everything. I struggled the first couple of chapters and wasn't sure if I wanted to read on.
This book should not be mistaken for a biography, it does not aim to be one and the "biographical essay" included here really is rather short. However, I truly feel that I got to know John F. Kennedy better by reading this fictional interview with him. And I actually didn't know very much about him beforehand, besides the most basic facts.
The cover is truly beautiful and caught my attention right away. Sadly, the content couldn't live up to my expectations. The storyline is well-known: meeting the love of your life again, which ended years ago in heartbreak but that you could never forget. This can make for a nice + cute, if not really original, story.
Ich finde One-Pot-Gerichte toll, denn da muss man sich keine Gedanken machen zu welchem Zeitpunkt man welchen Topf/Pfanne/Herd anstellen muss, damit am Ende alles gleichzeitig fertig ist. Das ist manchmal nämlich eine richtig heikle Aufgabe. Weiterer Pluspunkt: der Abwasch reduziert sich!
Im vierten Teil der Krimireihe um Polizeikommissar Fabian Risk steht noch weniger als bereits im letzten Teil unser 'Titelheld' wirklich im Mittelpunkt des Geschehens oder wenigstens der Ermittlungen. Anderen Mitgliedern des Kommissariats von Helsingborg wird hier ebenso viel Platz eingeräumt.
This book definitely makes you want to spend your next vacation in Tuscany. With the elaborate accounts of Maisies visits to Siena, Pisa and Florence, the book could almost serve as a travel guide. And food guide as well, since plenty of Italian dishes are described in detail. This creates a great atmosphere of a lavish Italian summer.
Man merkt es dem Buch wirklich an, dass die Autorin (und anderen Beitragenden) wirkliche Gilmore Girls Fans sind. Nicht nur finden sich in der Einleitung und Vorstellung der Personen ständig Hinweise darauf, auch bei jedem Rezept steht dabei in welcher Episode oder Situation dieses in der Serie aufgetaucht ist. Zudem sind die Rezepte einzelnen Kategorien zugeordnet.
Gregor Haake legt seinen Beruf als Journalist auf Eis und wird Vollzeit-Papa. Weil man für diesen Knochenjob aber am Ende des Monats trotzdem nichts verdient, schreibt er nun eben darüber.
